 The development of European aquaculture increasingly requires innovative technologies that can support environmental sustainability, operational safety, and social acceptance of production activities.

 In this context, the MAR Multipurpose Amphibious Rover (www.eco-mar.it) represents an advanced and versatile solution for operations in complex coastal environments such as lagoons, estuaries, and intertidal zones—areas that are often beyond the reach of traditional automation and control systems.

 Designed to move across land, mud, and shallow water, MAR is a modular, fully electric amphibious mobile platform developed for civil, environmental, and infrastructure protection applications.

Its integration into the aquaculture sector opens new opportunities for smart management of farms and continuous ecosystem monitoring.

 This contribution explores the potential applications of MAR in support of sustainable aquaculture, with specific reference to the coastal context of Valencia and other Mediterranean regions:

  • Real-time environmental monitoring using onboard sensors (water quality, turbidity, microplastics, etc.);
  • Surveillance and protection of aquaculture infrastructure against natural damage or unauthorized access;
  • Low-impact logistical support for inspection and maintenance of cages, rafts, and piers;
  • Technical training and outreach, offering a mobile and interactive platform for education and stakeholder engagement.
  •

 MAR contributes to the Blue Economy paradigm and aligns with the goals of the European Green Deal , offering a concrete solution to drive a digital and green transition in the aquaculture sector. Its adoption can strengthen engagement with local communities, increase transparency, and improve the public perception of aquaculture as a sector compatible with environmental integrity and socio-economic development.

The presentation aims at the creation of collaborative pathways with academic institutions and local producers, laying the groundwork for integrated pilot projects in the Mediterranean region.
