Sensor technology has improved, reducing costs and creating richer data streams on more parameters. This presentation will cover two case studies where clients leveraged sensor data to make dramatic improvements in farm performance.

Case Study 1: Topian addresses thermal stress

Topian Aquaculture, a farmer of sea bass and bream in the Red Sea, wanted to produce the higher-value greater amberjack (Seriola dumerili), but several cohorts had to be abandoned after high summer temperatures led to mass mortality. They looked to Innovasea, which helped them by deploying temperature sensors to capture their thermocline. Innovasea then deployed two submersible pens, which Topian operated below the thermocline for the warmest four months of the year, reducing the experienced temperature by ~2°C and alleviating thermal stress for the fish. Topian finished their first Seriola harvest in Dec 2025 with 12.7% mortality.

Case Study 2: Cooke

In 2018, Cooke bought an O2 system to reduce the impact of hypoxia events and increase the available feeding windows. They used Innovasea's aquaMeasure sensors in each pen and observed striking differences in the oxygen levels in each pen, before supplementation. They wanted a system to control oxygen flow on a pen-by-pen basis. Innovasea created aquaControl, which enables farmers to monitor and control oxygen and airflow to each pen. Cooke was able to reduce their O2 needs dramatically without compromising in-pen conditions.
