For the first time, Aquaculture Europe will host a session dedicated to science communication chaired by Nofima. The main part of the session will consist of presentations.
As 2026 marks both the first Communicating Science session and the anniversary of the EAS, it is an especially appropriate time to reflect on how we communicate aquaculture science.
We are at, or may already have passed, a turning point between more traditional forms of communication, such as editor-led trade journals, and newer formats, including AI-generated content and social media. At the same time, the ways in which people assess information and decide whom and what to trust are changing. The proportion of people who have grown up with smartphones and social media will continue to increase.
The presenters, invited guests (Larissa Lewis and James Sibley from the plenary session) and the audience are welcome to an open conversation on the question: “What should the communications landscape for aquaculture science look like in the years ahead?”
